Do you sit around wishing your teeth were straighter and more beautiful, but dreading the thought of having to endure a year or two or more of uncomfortable metal braces and many trips to the orthodontist? If so, then Invisalign braces may be just what you’re looking for!
Invisalign is a system of clear plastic aligners that look similar to a mouth guard that is worn over teeth to gently and conveniently move them into proper alignment. The orthodontic option offers adults and teens alike the opportunity to achieve straighter teeth without the need for wearing uncomfortably, unwieldy and unsightly metal brackets and wires. In contrast, the clear aligners are barely noticeable when worn, can be removed as needed and require fewer trips to the orthodontist or dentist.
If you opt for this method of straightening your teeth, you will receive a series of aligners that are designed to be worn for approximately two weeks at a time. These aligners will move your teeth from the alignment they are currently in to where they should be in order for you to have straighter and more beautiful teeth. Through a computerized program, the aligners can predict how much your teeth can move within the two week period so that each aligner in the set can pick up where the last one left off.
Once your Invisalign clear alignment system is fabricated, your dentist will show you how to properly place the aligners on your teeth, as well as how to remove them so that you don’t do any damage to the aligners. You will also be instructed on how to wear your aligners. The clear aligners are designed to shift your teeth slightly during a two week period, assuming you wear them for the recommended 22 hours per day. This allows you time to remove the aligners for eating (you should never eat with the aligners still in your mouth) as well as to properly clean and care for your teeth and gums. Other than that, the aligners should remain in your mouth all day and night for the most effective results.
After every two weeks, you will simply replace the clear aligner you have been wearing with the next one in the set to continue to the straightening process. It is recommended that you keep the aligners you have already worn just in case you need to go back a step at any point. Although you may feel some minor discomfort when you start a new aligner in the series, this is just because the apparatus is properly doing its job to move your teeth.
The good news is that not only will you not have to deal with metal brackets and wires that can be uncomfortable and can cut into your gums and the inside of your mouth, but you also won’t have to make as many trips to the orthodontist. Since each visit will not require new wires to be secured or brackets to be tweaked, only periodic visits are needed to ensure that the Invisalign system is working as it should.
Invisalign braces are not only convenient, but are also a more attractive and comfortable way to straighten your teeth.
