M.J., Flushing, NY
It usually takes two or three dental appointment to complete crowns and bridges. In the first appointment the teeth are prepared and molds of the mouth are taken.
While the custom restoration is being made, your temporary crowns or bridges will be placed to protect your teeth. Since your teeth will be anesthetized, your tongue, lips and roof of your mouth will be numb. You should refrain from eating and drinking hot beverages until the numbness completely wears off.
If your temporary crown or bridge comes off, please call us and bring it with you so we can re-cement it. Your temporary crown and/or bridge prevent your other teeth from moving. It is very important for the temporary crown or bridge to stay in place so that the fit of your final restoration is not compromised.
In order to avoid displacement of your temporary crown or bridge, avoid eating sticky and hard foods. Floss all of your temporary crowns carefully without pulling up on the floss, as it may dislodge the temporary crown. Instead, pull the floss out from the side of the temporary crown.
It is normal to experience some temperature and pressure sensitivity after each appointment. The sensitivity should subside a few weeks after the placement of the final restoration. Mild pain medications may also be used as directed by our office.
Please feel free to contact our office if your discomfort persists or if you have any other questions or concerns.
