You have to remember that it will take some time for you to adjust to the feel of your new bite and to the way your teeth fit together after your new smile makeover. It will usually take several days for your brain to recognize the new position and thickness of your teeth, if the bite was altered or the position of your teeth was changed. If, after several days you continue to feel discomfort or detect any high spots or problems with your bite, please call our office and we will schedule an appointment to make any necessary adjustments.
You will also experience some hot and cold sensitivity, as your teeth will require some tome to heal after removal of tooth structure. Your gums may also be sore for a few days.
Your gums may also be sore for a few days. Warm salt water rinses three times a day will reduce your discomfort and swelling. Also, a mild pain medication such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen should ease any residual discomfort after the procedure.
If your speech is also affected, do not be alarmed. In a few days you will quickly adapt to speaking normally.
Please take seriously your daily oral hygiene, as daily brushing and flossing is critical for the long-term success of your new teeth. Also, keeping your regular cleaning appointments is very important.
You also have to remember that any food that can crack, chip or damage a natural tooth can do the same to your new teeth. Avoid hard foods and substances such as nuts, ice, sticky candies and minimize or avoid foods that will stain your teeth such as coffee, red wine, tea and berries.
If you grind your teeth at night, let us know and we will provide you with a custom made mouthguard. Also, if you engage in sports, you should wear your custom made mouthguard.
